We always welcome new member institutions

Our innovative network allows all member institutions to share expertise in translation and interpreting studies with particular emphasis on the teaching of translation and interpreting studies at UK and Irish HE institutions. As a member of APTIS, your institution will be given access to our network where our members:

  • Find potential research partners in translation and interpreting studies at UK and Irish HE institutions. APTIS is a forum where members exchange best practice in research as well as teaching. Our APTIS Network gives members the opportunity to gather relevant information about career progression opportunities for PGRs (finding a post-doc position) and Early Career Researchers (creating a national research network, finding the next step);

  • Shape the future of T&I provision by enhancing the visibility of T&I degrees in the UK and in Ireland and help promote translation and interpreting as a profession;

  • Can potentially be nominated to represent APTIS as subject expert on research panels (APTIS was on the HEFCE list of nominating bodies for REF2021);

  • Resolve practical matters related to your T&I programmes (e.g. finding an external examiner for your T&I programmes) quickly and efficiently.

  • Share, explore and debate the latest developments in the teaching of translation and interpreting so as to make sure that your courses offer a second-to-none student experience in the field, including student employability;

  • Share the most up-to-date information to inform your graduates about the best choice for them in their T&I studies and beyond;

  • Can get their students' work recognised by our Association with our Prizes;

Participate in Webinars

Participate in webinars throughout the academic year, in which experts share guidance on issues of interest highlighted by APTIS members.

Webinars are recorded and made available in the Members' Area of the website for those unable to attend on the day.

Shape our Annual Conference

Every APTIS institution can send one delegate for free to the APTIS annual conference and to the annual AGM where they can represent your institution. Member institution can also send an unlimited number of delegates to the APTIS annual conference at a heavily discounted rate for staff AND students. With guest speakers, expert talks and hands-on workshops, this annual conference is a great CPD opportunity for teachers and researchers of translation and interpreting at UK/Irish universities.

As an APTIS member, you can also offer to host the APTIS annual conference to enhance the visibility of your T&I offer nationally and internationally.
